MBC’s Brompton Maintenance Session – 29 May 2016

Yes, it’s the post many of you have waited a long time for… A date has finally been set for our first Melbourne Brompton Club maintenance session!

Date: Sunday, 29 May 2016
Time: 10am
Venue: The pagoda near the Australian Native section of Royal Park (Parkville); follow the path in from the corner of Park Drive and Gatehouse Street.

This session will be in place of our usual end of month ride – of course, if some people choose to go for a ride afterwards…

We will principally be looking at how to fix a flat tyre since this is something that’s bound to happen to nearly everyone sooner or later.

Depending how long that takes to go through (and how long people want to hang around) we may run through other topics. Please comment below (or on Facebook) what topics you would like to discuss so we can come prepared.

If you intend to come to this first session, please bring:
– a toolkit if you have one (Brompton or otherwise) which contains a 8mm, 10mm, and a 15mm spanner. (Yes, the 15mm is particularly important) Cory may have some available for purchase on the day.

– a puncture repair kit (for demonstration purposes, unless you have a Brompton toolkit)
– a clean rag/paper towels
– something to clean your hands on and with (wet wipes)
– hat, sunscreen, water/drink

What happens if it rains?
Good question. Please hope it doesn’t rain as this venue is dependent on good weather. If the weather is looking iffy, we’ll have to advise closer to the date whether this means the whole session is going to be postponed or re-located.

UPDATE (28 May): Forecast for tomorrow is cold and cloudy but NO rain. Therefore meeting point is still Royal Park as detailed above, however it is quite likely that if the ground is too muddy we may find ourselves enjoying a short group ride along Capital City Trail to Velo Electric & Folding (753 Nicholson Street, Carlton North) to conduct the session.

In the meantime, happy Bromptoneering everyone! 🙂Red Brompton with 'lucky' pig - Melbourne City Square
