June Take 2 – Sunday 2 July 2023

Due to a very poor weather forecast and a couple of overlapping schedules, the original ride for June (Nimmon’s Bridge – Skipton RT) will now be a much shorter loop ride taking in the SE suburbs of Aspendale, Sprinvale South, Keysborough and Chelsea Heights.

Thanks to Ken for this suggestion, once again utilising the knowledge base of Melbourne Cycle Loops.

Ride Details

  • Meeting Point: Tour De Cafe, Mordialloc Pier
  • Meeting Time: 10:00am
  • Ride Length: ~40km to complete the loop starting from Mordialloc Pier
  • Elevation: quite flat. We should be just cruising along most of the time.
  • Duration: ~3hrs riding followed by lunch afterwards in Mordialloc.

****POST RIDE NOTE: Melbourne Cycle Loops describes this loop as 80 paved… we discovered it is 80% UNpaved and in wet weather you will get a very dirty bike (and clothes).****

Getting There

As you are likely aware, disruptions to train services are likely to continue for some time. The closest stop to Mordialloc Pier is Mordialloc Stn – but please be aware that there are bus replacement service on that line.

The Sandringham Line isn’t showing any disruptions at this time. Sandringham Stn is about 12km from Mordialloc Pier (depending on your route). I don’t think the Bay Trail extends the whole way as an off-road shared path (someone please correct me if I’m wrong) and using the bike lane on Beach Road is likely to be my choice.

What To Bring

  • Your Brompton in good working condition
  • Clothes appropriate for the weather
  • Water/drink bottle
  • Spare tube (if you have one)

A reminder to please watch this video before your next club ride: How To Use Hand Signals Whilst Cycling. I will also endeavour to run through these before each ride.

Friends welcome, even if they don’t have a Brompton (yet?) – as long as they are polite and fit in with the group. If you have any questions I haven’t covered above please let me know – melbournebromptonclub@gmail.com

Happy riding and I look forward to seeing you soon!
