Clayton to Docklands *Night Ride* – Saturday 7 October, 2023

Update: Date has been changed so as not to clash with drunk football supporters.

****RSVP required ASAP for food/drink stop at Deeds Brewing – by Wednesday at the latest please. The more people interested, the earlier we need to book. RSVP on the Facebook event, or by emailing me [Dayna] at melbournebromptonclub@gmail.com****

Starting at Clayton Station we’ll follow the Djerring Trail, interconnecting with Scotchman’s Creek Trail and end the ride at Docklands. We’ll wait for sunset at our half way stop at KAIJU! Beer and Pizza in Huntingdale. Food and table service is available at the brewery. Bike lights are a must for this ride! The route gets progressively better lit as we get closer to the CBD.

Communicating on the ride

On night rides it can be a lot more difficult to see and anticipate what the rider in front is doing/seeing/thinking. In addition to hand signals please also use your voice to call out what’s happening. For example, if you need to slow down to safely take a corner, or because there’s a branch/snake/shadow on the path, call out “slowing!”. It’s important for the person behind to hear you AND DO THE SAME as they slow down in turn (etc). Ditto for stopping, or making a turn. This way everyone knows what’s happening, the group stays together, and safety is improved.

Happy Bromptoning!
