Dandenong Creek Trail – Djerring Trail Loop – Sunday 3 December, 2023

UPDATE: Due to a pretty poor weather forecast, this ride has been postponed 1week. This also means our lunch reservation at “The Nott” has been cancelled; we will find something to eat back at Glen Waverley.

Having recently – and finally – ridden the Djerring Trail from Yarraman Station to East Caulfield Reserve, I’m super impressed with the signage, ease of navigation, construction and facilities along the way – which is why we’re going to ride part of it for this month’s social ride.

Unfortunately, it’s not the whole length because 1) finding a safe connection to other trails, particularly at the northern end, is it’s biggest failing and 2) disruptions to train services seem seem to coincide with our end of month rides uncannily often.

For this reason we’re starting at Glen Waverley Station, looping south via Dandenong Creek Trail and East Link Trail, picking up Djerring Trail at Yarraman Station. We’ll follow Djerring Trail north to Huntingdale, turning east just before the station, skirt Monash Uni Clayton Campus and enjoying lunch at Notting Hill Hotel (“The Nott”). We have a lunch reservation (confirmation pending) at 1:30pm for 14 people in the beer garden, so once again please RSVP for this ride.

After lunch it’s a short 6km ride back to Glen Waverley Station.

Ride Details

  • Meeting Place: Glen Waverley Station
  • Meeting Time: 10:15am
  • Distance: ~36.5km in total (roughly 30km before lunch, 6km after lunch)
  • Duration: I’m allowing 3hrs to get to lunch. Ride back to Glen Waverley will probably take 30min.
  • Average pace: 12-15km/hr
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Lunch stop: Notting Hill Hotel (“The Nott”) 1:30pm reservation for 14 in the beer garden now back at Glen Waverley
  • RSVP: Required by Tuesday 21st November

If you’re coming from the city, the train leaves Parliament Stn (Platform 4) at 9:39am or Richmond Stn (Platform 9) at 9:42am.

Richmond Station, Platform 9…. July 2022

If some people want to ride faster and get the spring out of their legs that’s fine, we’ll regroup at road crossing. The average pace for anyone slower (like myself) will be more relaxed with the only aims of not arriving late to our lunch reservation – and enjoying the ride!

Ride will be cancelled if the weather looks terrible – high winds or rain. Find updates at the top of the post, and shared across our other platforms.

What To Bring

  • Your Brompton in good working condition
  • Clothes (layers) comfortable to ride in and appropriate for the weather
  • Sunglasses, gloves, suncream, drink bottle
  • MYKI
  • Spare tube, toolkit

Should I Join This Ride?

This ride is predominantly on paths, but there are a few suburban streets around Glen Waverley Station that we’ll need to take that won’t have any dedicated bicycle infrastructure.

You will need to be confident that you can ride the distance – or arrange a pick up or other transport if you feel you need to pull out before the end.

As always, you should be comfortable with basic bike skills; braking safely, signalling, and using your gears – although these rides are also practice for using your gears, and advice from other members is free for the asking. If you aren’t sure how to signal to the group on a ride, or you need a refresher, please ensure to watch the video below.

    Hi Dayna,

Can’t remember if I RSVP but I’ll be joining. Will there be a lunch stop?

      Hi Jasmine,
I couldn’t reschedule lunch as originally planned, so the new plan is to look for food at Glen Waverley at the end of the ride. There are many shops there (footpath eateries) to choose from.
      See you Sunday 🙂
