End of Year Club Ride – Sunday 10th December

Our last ride for the year is a very relaxed and easy ride open to all members, friends and family. Taking in the sights of Maribyrnong Creek, we’ll start in the green space opposite Footscray Wharf, enjoy a relaxed picnic style brunch/lunch by The Boathouse, before heading back again.

I have not made a reservation; we are going to hope for good weather so we can enjoy the outdoors. Members are welcome to bring their own food and drink or purchase these from The Boathouse Kiosk.

Please Note: a short (~1km) section of the route is likely to be extra busy with pedestrians, other riders, joggers, dog walkers, and people hauling boats in and out of the water. We will not be in a rush and safety considerations must always come first.

Getting There

I wanted to start from the city/Docklands, but there are a lot of works taking place at the moment. Presently the best option if you’re coming from the city is to catch a train from Flinders or Southern Cross to Footscray Station (arrives at 10:39am).

Alternatively, if you’re catching a train from the Upfield or Craigieburn lines, you can meet up with me at the following stations to ride to the start (but please confirm in advance):

10:21am – Flemington Bridge Station (street level)
10:26am – Kensington Station
(Bellair St – opposite side of tracks)

If you choose to drive, there’s parking along Maribyrnong Street, south of the meeting point.

What To Bring

  • Your bike in good working condition
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • Spare tube and tools if you have them (recommended)
  • **Optional** Picnic rug, your own food/drink

Please do NOT bring alcohol to the park. If people would like an alcoholic beverage, you can make plans to go to a licensed venue afterwards.

Whilst this ride is open to everyone + family/friends, please ensure you and any family/friends are comfortable with basic bike skills; braking safely and with confidence, signalling, and using your gears so we can ensure everyone enjoys a fun day out. Every ride is practice using these skills but a basic level of competency is required when riding with other people.
